What are your strongest memories of NSBHS?
Mr Prakash – needs and wants… goods and services… The class driving Miss Mongrose nuts. Being told by Mr Williams that he would never take me on another camp - and I didn’t think I was that bad… I enjoyed school and remember some fun teachers like Mr Weiss, Mr Hunt and all of the Geography teachers …The bottleyard, Keel St lawn, lighting the Bunsen burners in science whenever we could and singeing hair & jumpers, a couple of bad experimental haircuts – me and others, good conversations with Sean Flood in Science where we solved all of the worlds problems. Friends and lunch time games of footy and cricket. Learning to spin a pen on my fingers in Chemistry. Catching the bus to Long Reef with some of the guys (Mike, Antony, Carl etc) for the regular Friday arvo surf. The rubbish we ate - sausage roll in a bread roll, 600ml of custard for recess…
Summarise briefly your life since school.
Went to Sydney Uni and did a Science degree, majoring in Computer Science and Geography, then did honours in Geography in an attempt to postpone making any career decisions. It also meant I could justify spending a year on the beach. Decided against a life totally behind the computer screen and did a Dip Ed. Met Katie when I was 19 and we were together for 5 years before we got married. We travelled for a year after getting married. We also started the kid thing pretty early and now have 3 beautiful daughters (Lucy - 10, Sophie - 8 and Olivia - 4), For the last 11 years I have been teaching at Barker College at Hornsby. It is a great place to work and pretty laid back for the kids. I teach Geography, Computing and Christian Studies half time and the rest of my time is IT support at the school – mostly helping the accounts department. Currently living in Wahroonga which is only a few minutes from work. We are also pretty involved in a local church. Holidays, of which there are a few, are spent with the family, mostly at the beach. We have been going away with the Chambers and a few other families to Crescent Head each year for the past few.
I see quite a bit of John Chambers and Mike Lee still, and miss contact with a few others that I haven’t seen for a while – just because we haven’t got around to it. Went to Bali surfing with Mike Lee last June (photo included).
Who are the most important people in your life today?
The family – Katie and the girls. I am very blessed to have a healthy and happy family.
